May 20, 2011 marks a special day in the corporate existence of the Association for it was the day that teacher-leaders from Appari to Jologathered enormously for the purpose of knowing the state of the organization and at the same time, donning their best attires in celebration of the64th Anniversary of PPSTA, the mother of all teacher-organizations in the country.The event was formally opened by a stunning doxology presented by Ms. Maria Salome Bulawan of the NCR PSTA and Mr. MichaelEmpenida of the National Office as well as the singing of the National Anthem and the PPSTA Hymn. After the ceremonial part of the program,Vice-President Udtog Kawit delivered his welcome speech while the Conservator, Atty. John Apatan, rendered the message for PPSTA of Hon.Emmanuel F. Dooc, Insurance Commissioner.Trustee Juanito Pallasigui, the designated secretary for the event, presented the delegates and declared a quorum in view of the presenceof 110 chapter presidents out of 154. Thereafter, President Mario Ramirez, called the meeting to order at exactly 10:00 o’clock in the morning. Atty. Apatan reported on the State of PPSTA Affair (SOPA) and the Financial Performance of the organization. Being the representative ofthe Insurance Commission to PPSTA, his report earned heartwarming applause when he assured the participants that PPSTA is indeed far fromreceivership, liquidation or bankruptcy and that the main thrust for placing the Association under conservatorship is the protection andconservation of its assets and funds for the protection of the organization and the general membership. He stressed that the members need notworry because PPSTA can very much pay for all claims as they fall due. In fact, the National Office has never failed to pay a single claim based inaccordance with the plan of a member.For his part, President Ramirez, apprised the chapter presidents of the programs, projects, reforms and achievements of PPSTA under thepresent Board grounded on PPSTA’s mission of:▪Providing career and professional advancement opportunities through scholarship and other competency-building programs;▪Providing optimum insurance, retirement, loans and other financial services to uplift members’ standard of living; and▪Providing excellent customer service through competent, well-motivated service personnel and properly equipped andempowered organization.Among others, notable accomplishments are the institutionalization of the Search for Outstanding Teachers, School Heads, Supervisors,Non-Teaching Personnel and Local Chapters, sponsorship of teachers’ seminars and fora such as the successful 26th Asean Council of TeachersConvention, developments of the Mutual Aid System 65 (MAS 65) and Mutual Retirement Benefit System Plus (MRBS Plus), causing the increase ofmaximum loanable amount for the Sariling Sikap Lending Program from P 20,000 to P 50,000, providing excellent customer service throughcompetent and well-motivated workforce, formulation of new policies for the best interest of members and their beneficiaries as well as the activeparticipation of the organization in congressional legislations involving teachers and the education system. The President pointed out theimpossibility of achieving what they have achieved without the undying support and dedication of the local chapters to the causes of theAssociation. The event was highlighted by the celebration of PPSTA’s 64th Anniversary in the evening of May 20 where delegates from different regionsparticularly Regions 2, 3, 5 and NCR including selected PPSTA employees showcased their impeccable talents. One man however, stood out in thename of Dr. Roland Fronda, who was awarded that night through the honor and prestige he brought not only to PPSTA and DepEd but the entirecountry when his musical piece and arrangement emerged as winner in the “Search for Asean Council of Teachers’ (ACT) Hymn” during theFriendship Night of the 26th ACT Convention in Subic.•PPSTA 64th Anniversary•Risk Management Seminar•Outing 2011•26th ACT Convention
